About the Artist

Janet Alford

Artist Statement:

“From an early age I knew art was always going to be a part of my life. I can’t see a landscape without seeing all the colors, lights, and textures presented by nature. My art continues to take me on a journey of artistic expressions that ever changing.

My main concentration is water colors. I love the purity I can achieve through the layering of colors. What has surprised me is how different paper textures have caught my interest. Water color paper remains my standby, but I thoroughly enjoy painting on Yupo and Mulberry paper.”

Janet was an art teacher in the Chelsea School District for 32 years. Now retired, she dedicates her time to making her own art. Janet loves the challenge of analyzing what she sees and using watercolors to paint it in her own style.

She received a bachelor’s degree in art education from the University of Georgia and a masters of art education from Eastern Michigan University.
